May Day, Padstow

1st May 2018

May Day (or 'Obby 'Oss Day as it is known) is the biggest day in Padstow's calendar. It is not unusual to see 30,000 people crammed into this little town on the day when Padstonians from all over the world return to their roots. The origins of the Obby Oss are numerous. Some say the celebration has its roots in pagan times, others that it's a rain maker, a fertility symbol, a deterrent to a possible landing by the French some centuries ago or perhaps a welcome to the summer.

St Agnes Bolster Festival

5th - 6th May 2018

A celebration of Cornish music and art featuring life size puppets, a drum band and a 28ft giant effigy re-enacting the famous Cornish legend of the giant called Bolster. A great day out for all the family.

The Black Prince Flower Boat May Day

7th May 2018

This festival takes place on May Day across the villages of Millbrook, Cawsand and Kingsand in the Rame Peninsula and is well worth some attention. The historic Black Prince Flower Boat Procession is an annual event and traditionally took place to bid farewell to the winter cold and welcome spring sunshine.

Helston Flora Day

8th May 2018

The famous Flora Day celebration is believed to be pre-Christian and at one time during the Victorian era was banned as being "a drunken revelry." Dancing begins at 7am. A great family day out.

12th - 13th May - Pigstock 2018

Pigstock is back for 2018 but this time at new venue, the biggest Pigstock yet, with top class bands, DJ sets, Children’s area with free entertainment, Street food stalls and a whole heap of special attractions.

19th May - A very Royal Day Out!

Go and join in to help celebrate the upcoming nuptuals of Prince Harry and Megan Markle. They are hosting a very special Royal Day Out with a great selection of activities for  visitors. 

26th - 28th May - Bubbilicious Bubble Weekend

BIG bubbles, square bubbles, caterpillar bubbles, wiggly worm bubbles and sheep bubbles are just some of the bubbles which will be floating around the BIG Sheep on Saturday 26th May as Captain Coconut attempts to beat the current world record for number of bubbles stacked which is currently 21 bubbles!!

Eden Classic Cycle Ride event

13th May 2018

The Eden Classic is a spectacular mass-participation cycling event, offering riders the unique chance to pedal the length of Eden past the world-famous Rainforest & Mediterranean Biomes, and along a choice of distances through the surrounding area.

St Ives Food and Drink Festival

11th -  13th  May 2018

A celebration and gathering of some of the finest food & drink producers and chefs in Cornwall which will take place in St Ives on Porthminster Beach – believed to be the UK’s only beach food and drink festival.

Fowey Festival of Art & Literature

13th - 19th May 2018

Lostwithiel's quirky one day festival sees an eclectic mix of events numbering more than 100 arts, crafts and food stalls and demonstrations throughout the town, non-stop street music, dance and performers, plus children's entertainment.

Open Studios Cornwall

19th - 28th May 2018

Now in its 15th year, Open Studios Cornwall 2018 will see artists, craftsmen and designers opening their studios and workshops to the public from Saturday 27th May to Sunday 4th June. Grab a guide, create your very own art trail, follow the orange Os and explore the landscape as well as creative Cornwall from Coverack to Crackington Haven, Penzance to Port Isaac and Lamorna to Lanreath. 

Bude & Stratton Folk Festival

25th - 28th May 2018

The Folk Festival is a friendly mix of folk concerts, workshops and themed events held annually on the late May Bank Holiday weekend. It features dance displays, music and song all based in and around the North Cornwall coastal town of Bude.

Fal River Festival

25th May - 3rd June 2018

Celebrating life on the River Fal this is a community festival encompassing over 150 events, including a fish festival, gig racing, swimming, wildlife walks and lots more.
